November 2, 2013 - SkyFest: Explore Mars with MAVEN

Join the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) as we celebrate the launch of NASA's next mission to Mars, MAVEN! Explorers of all ages are welcome to attend this FREE event on November 2, 2013. Learn about Mars and the MAVEN mission through hands-on activities and view the night sky through telescopes provided by the JSC Astronomy Society. The event begins at 7:00 P.M. and concludes at 9:30 P.M. LPI is located in the USRA building at 3600 Bay Area Boulevard in the Clear Lake region of Houston; the entrance is located on Middlebrook Drive. November 21, 2013 - Cosmic Explorations Speaker Series

The Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) invites all inquisitive adults to attend The 2013 Chelyabinsk Air Burst and the Hazards of Near-Earth Asteroid Impacts, a presentation by Dr. David Kring of the Lunar and Planetary Institute. This free public presentation on November 21, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. is the second presentation in LPI's 2013-2014 Cosmic Explorations Speaker Series entitled "The Universe is Out to Get Us and What We Can (or Can't) Do About It."

LPI's Cosmic Explorations presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a light reception. No reservation is necessary. LPI is located in the USRA building at 3600 Bay Area Boulevard in the Clear Lake region of Houston; the entrance is located on Middlebrook Drive. The Lunar and Planetary Institute is part of the Universities Space Research Association (USRA). Important Note About Parking - Limited visitor parking is available at the USRA building for public speaker attendees, so once the visitor parking section is full, attendees are asked to park in the University Baptist Church (UBC) parking lot<http://www.lpi.usra.edu/meetings/UBC_parking_map.pdf>. A shuttle bus will run throughout the event to take attendees to and from their cars. Directions from Bay Area Boulevard:  Turn left on Middlebrook Drive and continue 0.4 miles. The UBC parking lot will be on the right, just past Glenshannon Drive. There are plenty of parking spaces available for event attendees, and signs will be posted at the shuttle pickup and drop off location at the north side of the lot.
