September 12, 2013 - Cosmic Explorations Speaker Series

The Lunar and Planetary Institutes invites all inquisitive adults to
attend Solar Storm: Space Weather's Impacts on Society and the Economy,
a presentation by Dr. Daniel Baker from the University of Colorado on
September 12, 2013 at 7:30pm.

Dr. Daniel Baker is Director of the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space
Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado-Boulder and is a Professor
of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences and a Professor of Physics. His
primary research interest is the study of plasma physics and energetic
particle phenomena in planetary magnetospheres and in the Earth's
vicinity. He conducts research in space instrument design, space physics
data analysis, and magnetospheric modeling.

LPI's Cosmic Explorations presentation begins at 7:30 p.m., and will be
followed by a light reception. No reservation is necessary. LPI is
located in the USRA building at 3600 Bay Area Boulevard in the Clear
Lake region of Houston; the entrance is located on Middlebrook Drive.

Important Note About Parking - Limited visitor parking is available at
the USRA building for public speaker attendees, so once the visitor
parking section is full, attendees are asked to park in the University
Baptist Church (UBC) parking lot
<http://www.lpi.usra.edu/meetings/UBC_parking_map.pdf> . A shuttle bus
will run throughout the event to take attendees to and from their cars.
Directions from Bay Area Boulevard: Turn left on Middlebrook Drive and
continue 0.4 miles. The UBC parking lot will be on the right, just past
Glenshannon Drive. There are plenty of parking spaces available for
event attendees, and signs will be posted at the shuttle pickup and drop
off location at the north side of the lot.
